Good to soft likely for Festival

Punters can make their ante-post bets for the Cheltenham Festival in the expectation of good to soft going, according to clerk of the course Simon Claisse, who turned off the sprinklers at Prestbury Park today for what he hopes is the final time before the first race on March 11.

Claisse ordered the sprinklers to be turned on due to the lack of rain and he is satisfied that conditions will be perfect when the tapes go up at the start of the Festival:

"We finished watering this morning. We've put on 12mm round the Old and New Courses and they are both now predominantly good to soft. The updated forecast from John Kettley this morning is for 11-17mm over the next week and then around 20mm over the week after that.

"If that happened, obviously we wouldn't need to water again and we could expect to start the meeting on good to soft."
