Plenty of Festival tickets left

With three weeks to go to the start of the Cheltenham Festival, there are still plenty of tickets left for the first three days, according to the track's communications manager.

Andy Clifton today reported that Cheltenham will not sell out for the first three days of the four-day festival and there will be tickets on the door for all three enclosures.

However, a full house is predicted on Cheltenham Gold Cup day on Friday, March 19.

In and around the city centre, some hotels have seen a slower trend in early bookings, but many on Tuesday reported interest to have picked up in the last couple of weeks.

Carol Wright, from the Mercure Queen's Hotel, a popular venue for racegoers, reported a "slight dip", saying: "Although we're booked up now, we found that this year people are booking much later than before, with a lot leaving it to January or even February."

Two of the track's enclosures are already sold out on Gold Cup day, putting the course again on target to exceed a total four-day attendance in excess of 200,000.

"Sales are going very well and are more than five per cent ahead of the same stage last year," said Clifton.
