2018 Cheltenham Festival odds - The current betting in the 2018 Gold Cup

We take a quick look at the ante-post betting for the 2018 Gold Cup, following Sizing John's tremendous victory at Cheltenham this year.

Sizing John continued his incredible recent run of form with a huge victory in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham. Jessica Harrington’s charge overtook Djakadam, who made a crushing mistake at the second last and Native River, who has led for most of the contest and stretched into an unassailable lead after the last fence. Minella Rocco tried his best to catch the winner, but his late effort wasn’t enough as Robbie Power celebrated in the saddle upon crossing the line.

At just seven-years-old, he is more than likely to return and defend his title at next year’s Festival. He’s listed by most bookmakers around the 5/1 mark, but bet365 are offering a price of 10/1 on Sizing John to repeat his Gold Cup-winning heroics in 2018.

Thistlecrack had been the Gold Cup favourite for the majority of the season, but he was ruled out of the Festival with a tendon injury last month. Colin Tizzard will be hoping to get the King George winner back to full fitness in time to defend his title at Kempton and he is currently the 5/1 favourite with SkyBet to win the 2018 Gold Cup.

Colin Tizzard can be proud of Native River’s effort, after he battled back for third, despite coming off the bridle sooner than any of the other front-runners. Bet365 quote the Hennessy and Welsh National winner as a 12/1 shot to take the Gold Cup trophy back to Dorset with him next season. Might Bite survived a late scare to land the RSA title earlier in the Festival and he joins Native River on a price of 12/1 with bet365 in the 2018 Gold Cup market.

Ruby Walsh proclaimed that Yorkhill was a Gold Cup horse after the pair put in a strong showing to claim the JLT crown and he can be found at a best price of 14/1 with William Hill to win the big one next year. Djakadam is likely to be back for a fourth tilt at the Gold Cup next season, unless Willie Mullins decides to drop him back in trip and he joins Yorkhill on a price of 14/1 with Paddy Power.

Empire Of Dirt can be found at a best price of 20/1 to win the 2018 Gold Cup with SkyBet, as the likes of Cue Card and Whisper trail behind at a best price of 25/1.

*2018 Gold Cup Odds (Best Price)*
5/1 Thistlecrack (SkyBet) 10/1 Sizing John (bet365) 12/1 Native River, Might Bite (bet365) 14/1 Yorkhill (William Hill), Djakadam (Paddy Power) 20/1 Empire Of Dirt (SkyBet) 25/1 Bar
