Bookies braced for £300million Cheltenham Festival betting bonanza

The biggest week of the betting year is upon us, and according to bookmaker Ladbrokes the 2019 Cheltenham Festival could trigger a staggering £300million betting bonanza across the industry in the UK and Ireland.

Last year, Ladbrokes say the Cheltenham Festival was a good one for the bookies, especially on the Thursday and Friday where winners came in at odds of 33/1 (Kilbricken Storm) and 25/1 (Pacha Du Polder).

Although this year’s festival looks extremely competitive, the nightmare scenario would include wins for Buveur D’Air in the Champion Hurdle (9/4), Champ in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle (5/2), and Tiger Roll in the Cross Country Chase (evens).

“Every year the Cheltenham Festival just gets bigger and bigger and this year a staggering amount of money is expected to change hands,” Ladbrokes’ Nicola McGeady told Bettingpro.com.

“Last year’s festival was a good one for us but past performances is no guide to future returns.”
