Cheltenham races.

Brian Healy picks out his two against the field in Sunday's competitive Grade Three handicap feature at Cheltenham.

Competitive handicap action goes to post on Sunday’s Cheltenham November Meeting racecard, and the latest renewal of the classy Grade Three Unibet Greatwood Hurdle gets underway as the fourth race of a six-race card at 3.00pm.

A big field of 19 runners will be bidding to land the first-prize pot which weighs in in excess of £56,000, and the race forms the backbone of Sunday’s ITV Racing coverage where Ed Chamberlain and the team will have more televised action from the Cotswolds venue.

The latest renewal of the Unibet Greatwood Hurdle will unfold over a trip just north of two miles, and some classy individuals the likes of Elgin, Old Guard, Garde La Victoire, Menorah and Khyber Kim have all won this race in the last decade.

A classy and competitive Grade Three contest, the latest renewal is sure to throw up a cracking contest, and Brian Healy picks out his two against the field for Sunday’s feature race.

NUBE NEGRA (15/2, Unibet) was backed into favouritism for the Fred Winter here in March, and Dan Skelton’s charge ran well to finish third behind Veneer Of Charm; he had led the field on the run to the last before being passed, but he kept on well and only lost the silver medal in the last few yards although he was no match for the winner.

Successful in two of his previous three starts before Cheltenham, he ran a bit flat when last seen at Aintree, finishing fifth to We Have A Dream and beaten around twenty lengths.

That was in Grade One company however, and the Dink gelding makes his return to action following wind surgery dropped back in grade; he could have further improvement to come this term, and Harry Skelton keeps faith with him over the yard’s Cheltenham Festival scorer, Mohayyed, who also turns out.

He remains with scope to do better, and this mark looks well within range of his capabilities with the prospect of further improvement still to come. He can go close.

Dan Skelton's Nube Negra can run a big race in Sunday's Unibet Greatwood Hurdle.

MIDNIGHT SHADOW (12/1, Unibet) looks one who could have significant improvement still to come, and Sue Smith’s charge can make her presence felt in this contest.

A Uttoxeter winner on debut, he was largely consistent last term, finishing runner-up in his next three starts which included the Grade Two Rossington Main Novices’ Hurdle where he finished ten lengths behind First Flow.

Unfortunate to have been carried out on his return from a short break at Haydock, the Midnight Legend gelding posted a highly creditable seventh to Lalor in the Grade One Top Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree; he subsequently won the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr, cosily beating Claimantakinforgan.

He didn’t do a lot wrong on his return from a summer break at Wetherby last month, getting to within one length of Innocent Touch despite making mistakes at each of the last two hurdles before keeping on well.

Only raised 1lb for that run, he ought to strip fitter for this competitive assignment, and while he’ll need to find a jolt of improvement there could be better still to come from him, and he can make his presence felt.
