Cheltenham Day 2 Tips

Betway’s welcome offer – First £10 Bet

I don’t fancy Champ at all in this year’s RSA, as those who’ve read my in-depth Cheltenham Festival day two tips will know. Still, this looks a very competitive renewal of this brilliant Grade One, with both Copperhead and Allaho posing the market leader a looming danger.

I do, however, have a soft spot for MINELLA INDO, and I had to include Henry De Bromhead’s charge in my Cheltenham day 2 tips. Minella Indo was a 66/1 shot when he won the Albert Bartlett last year. Anyone who suggested that was a fluke was made to eat their words at Punchestown, as Rachael Blackmore’s mount held off Allaho again to win his second Grade One.

Minella Indo’s results over fences are certainly the least impressive of those at the head of the betting. However, De Bromhead’s charge was inconvenienced by the slow pace over a short trip on debut, and did manage to get the better of a future Grade Two winner on bottomless ground last time out. Minella Indo has jumped neatly on both of his chasing start and will relish his return to the Cheltenham Festival tips.

Cheltenham Day 2 Tips – Second £10 Bet

My strongest fancy in the two handicaps on day two of the Cheltenham Festival is PROTEKTORAT. Dan Skelton’s five-year-old overcome Imperial Alcazar and Redford Road to claim a maiden victory over hurdles in a Listed race here on New Year’s Day. On just his second start over two-and-a-half miles, Protektorat then ran a blinder to place third in the Ballymore Trial on Trials’ Day.

Skelton’s youngster crossed the line just four lengths behind Harry Senior that day, when giving his rival five pounds at the weights. I thought that performance was worthy of a run in the Ballymore itself, so to see Protektorat enter the Coral Cup with just over 11-00 on his back is a chance I don’t want to pass up.

Betway’s welcome offer – Third £10 Bet

I’m going to go for a short-price double using the final third of my first deposit with Betway. I couldn’t publish any Cheltenham day 2 tips without mentioning TIGER ROLL, who offers tons of value sitting on Even-money. The two-time Grand National winner is fit enough to compete for a third victory in the Cross Country. On ratings, he could underperform by ten or 15 pounds and still win with ease. Evens really is a very generous price.

The second leg of my double will be APPRECIATE IT, for Willie and Patrick Mullins in the Champion Bumper. It was hard not to be blown away by Appreciate It’s performance at Leopardstown, where he destroyed some good-quality rivals in fine style. I don’t see any reason why he won’t repeat that at the Festival. Both are sure to be popular in Cheltenham free bet offers and the double looks very appealing!

Cheltenham Day 2 Tips – £30 Free Bet

What better way to use Betway’s £30 free bet than with a bet in the Betway Champion Chase. Altior remains a dangerous foe and Chacun Pour Soi is clearly a chaser of the highest calibre. My preference is for DEFI DU SEUIL, though.

Philip Hobbs’ charge was one of the stars of the season during his novice campaign last term, and Defi Du Seuil has carried on in the same vein in 2019/20. Following a hard-fought victory in the Tingle Creek, Barry Geraghty’s mount blew Un De Sceaux away in the Clarence House, sealing a seven-length triumph without ever coming out of third gear.

I’ll be expecting Geraghty to sit quietly behind the pace. The stronger the early pace in the Champion Chase, the better. Jumping the last, Defi Du Seuil will make his winning charge, and I don’t think anyone in this field will be strong enough to deny him. He’ll be the last of my Cheltenham day 2 tips with Betway.
