Ballymore Novices Hurdle Tips

2019 Ballymore Novices' Hurdle Ante-Post Tips

Trying to find a solid ante-post bet in the three novice hurdles is a daunting task this year, but two horses have managed to separate themselves at the head of the Ballymore betting. Connections of both CHAMP (7/2 Boylesports) and Battleoverdoyen have all-but confirmed this two-and-a-half-miler is their intended Cheltenham Festival target and, of the two, it’s Nicky Henderson’s contender who makes the most appeal.

Champ and Battleoverdoyen are the stand-out candidates in the betting but, given a clean round of jumping, there’s no reason why BREWIN’UPASTORM (12/1 Paddy Power) can’t give the market leaders a real run for their money.

A clash with Birchdale followed in the Classic Hurdle at Cheltenham, where Richard Johnson’s steed was mounting - what looked like being - a winning challenge before coming down at the final flight.

An improving horse who will stay three miles in time, Brewin’Upastorm has the pace to challenge over this length of trip and was jumping nicely around Cheltenham until that error at the last. He’s certainly one for the favourites to fear.

The Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle Race

Ladies’ Day at the Cheltenham Festival kicks off in appropriately flamboyant fashion, as a sea of talented novices hurdlers approach the starter ahead of the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle. This two-and-a-half-mile trip demands a hurdler to, not only have the speed to triumph on the run to the line, but also a fair amount of stamina to stay strong down the famous Cheltenham home straight.

Ruby Walsh and Willie Mullins have teamed up for a record four victories in the Ballymore, with Faugheen their most famous victor in 2014.
