2019 Mares' Novices' Hurdle Ante-Post Tips

Nicky Henderson’s Epatante deservedly leads the way in the betting after an impressive debut victory. However, Willie Mullins has won all three renewal of this race since it’s inception in 2016 and SALSARETTA (14/1 William Hill) could be dangerously overpriced.

On her first start since arriving from France, Mulling threw Salsaretta into the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, where she finished a long-way behind her imperious stablemate, Laurina. A maiden victory followed in May – meaning she retained novice status for the new campaign – and on her only start during the regular season, Salsaretta easily beat Felix Desjy, who boosted the form with a Grade Two victory two weeks later.

Willie Mullins’ second winner of this race, Let’s Dance was also a second-season novice making her second appearance at the Festival. Salsaretta would clearly stay three miles, but that extra stamina would come in handy over this awkward, 18-furlong trip.

The Trull House Stud Mares Novices’ Hurdle

The newest inception on the Festival rota, a field of talented mares will be given their chance to shine in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. Only the finest first-season jumpers will be allowed to enter this 18-furlong Grade Two and the winner will likely go on to challenge for the Mares Hurdle in the proceeding seasons. 

Ireland’s top trainer, Willie Mullins has ruled the roost in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, saddling all three of the winners since the race was added to the festivities in 2016.
