2019 Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle Ante-Post Tips

Gordon Elliott has prioritised this race – named in honour of his former mentor – in recently, saddling back-to-back winners over the past two seasons with Champagne Classic and Blow By Blow. His Martin Pipe team this year could be lead by DALLAS DES PICTONS (10/1 Ladbrokes), who has improved with each run during his novice campaign and looks a potentially smart jumper in the making.

After being well-beaten on his jumping debut, Elliott’s six-year-old looked much more composed at Leopardstown over Christmas, responding well to pressure to finish a staying-on second in a decent two-mile maiden. Dallas Des Pictons continued his progression with a maiden victory at Fairyhouse earlier this month, cruising to victory over two-and-a-half-miles and he could strut his stuff at the Dublin Racing Festival before setting sail for Cheltenham.

The Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle

Named in homage to legendary trainer Martin Pipe, this handicap hurdle has become one of the most coveted prizes of the week - especially for trainers who have been mentored by the master trainer. The Martin Pipe has been won by future Grade One winning chasers like Sir Des Champs and Don Poli since its inaugural running in 2009.

Only conditional jockeys will be allowed to ride in the Martin Pipe and, for some, it will be the first opportunity to ride at a momentous occasion like the Cheltenham Festival.
